The outdoor areas

The way we are organized in pavilions gives us large and good outdoor areas. We are located near the edge of the forest, and around us we have large green areas. We have paved school yards, handball court, and we have grass football fields. In addition, we have a gravel surface for ball games and other games, and even a ball bunker. We think we have a nice school yard, giving our pupils a possibility to play various games. We are also proud and happy in our amphi theater, which gives us a unique opportunity to bring the whole school together in a limited area.

AMBJØRNRØD SKOLE

Short facts about our school Ambjørnrød School was built in 1990, and is a school for 1-7 graders. It is located in one of the youngest neighbourhoods in the municipality of Fredrikstad, and the area is still growing. Our school is organized in six pavilions , and is beautifully set in a west slope. We have about 315 pupils, and this number has been stable over years, though we expect a growth in the years ahead. We have an average of 45 pupils pr year, giving us classes with 20-28 students. We have a collegium consisting of teachers at both ends of their career, and some in between, a total of 24 well educated and skilled educators. We also have 14 school assistants who work partly in school and partly as responsible for the operation and content of our After School Care. This year there are about 130 children in the After School Care .

The buildings

When the school was built in 1990 it was an attractive institution to visit for anyone who wanted to see the last of the modern school of architecture. Our buildings were built as completely open solutions , without division in classrooms. It didn’t take long, though, before walls were put up, and today our classrooms are organized fairly traditionally. We face challenges when it comes to the number of classrooms, but so far we have managed to give each class their own room. The municipality have now started a long range work with refurbishing our pavilions, and this autumn we are happy to see a totally renewed school kitchen and a library.
